Overview
AS Level Assessment
Students take two written exams at AS Level:
Paper 1 β Physical Geography
Topics like rivers, weather, and rocks. Students answer short and structured questions.
Paper 2 β Human Geography
Covers population, migration, and cities. Includes map reading and written responses.
Each paper is 1 hour 30 minutes and counts equally toward the final AS grade.
All exams are marked externally by Cambridge International.
A Level Assessment (additional)
To complete the full A Level in Geography, students take two more written exams:
Paper 3 β Advanced Physical Geography
Students choose two topics (like coasts, tropical environments, or hazards) and write structured and essay-style answers.
Paper 4 β Advanced Human Geography
Students choose two topics (like global interdependence, environmental management, or economic change) and analyse real-world issues in depth.
Each paper lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and counts for 25% of the full A Level grade.
All exams are set and marked by Cambridge International.
Assessment Routes
Students can complete Cambridge A Level Geography in two ways:
Staged Route
Take AS Level exams at the end of Year 1, and A2 exams (Papers 3 & 4) at the end of Year 2.
Final A Level grade is based on performance across all four papers.
Linear Route
Take all four papers at the end of Year 2 in one exam session.
Ideal for students applying to universities that prefer final-year results.
Both routes lead to the same internationally recognised A Level qualification.
